Costume in Focus (CiF) is the first research group with sharp focus on developing research in the field of Costume Design. CiF was founded in 2013 by Professor Sofia Pantouvaki, and is currently based at the Department of Film, Television and Scenography of Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland.

The main objective of Costume in Focus is to lead quality research in the field of Costume Design in live and film/media-based performance by bridging theory and practice: generating new ways of thinking on and through artistic practice and developing a critical discourse on costume to contribute and advance the existing knowledge in the field through research of high standards.

The CiF group also aims at building the foundations for future research, providing training to early career researchers, and working on the establishment of methodological tools for the development of further research in the field of costume and performance.

Costume in Focus currently functions as the core for research in the field of Costume Design in Finland, developing the field as a coordinator on a national level, while also holding an active role in building and sustaining an international network of partners in costume research. Strong international cooperation includes the development of research projects with a global impact.
